DefinitionGreen tick verification

WhatsApp's verified badge (once green, now blue) shows a business account has been verified by Meta. It requires the API, Meta verification and notability.

Green tick verification is the popular name for WhatsApp's verified business badge, a checkmark next to a business name showing Meta has confirmed the account belongs to a notable, authentic brand. The badge used to be green and is now blue, matching Facebook and Instagram.

Why it matters

Verification builds trust in a channel full of impersonation scams. Verified businesses show their name even to people who haven't saved the number, which is helpful for OTPs, payments and delivery updates.

Requirements (simplified)

  • An account on the WhatsApp Business API
  • A verified Meta Business account
  • Two-step verification on the number
  • A notable brand, usually shown through independent press coverage
  • A healthy messaging quality history

Nobody can guarantee approval; Meta decides.

Example

A national restaurant chain with coverage in major newspapers applies through its provider and gets verified. A new local bakery is typically asked to build more notability first.
