SIM-based SMS is a way of sending text messages through ordinary Android phones and their SIM cards, controlled from a cloud dashboard. Messages go out from the phones' own numbers, and replies come back into the dashboard.
Why it matters
It suits personal-style, two-way messaging with your own customers (reminders, follow-ups, confirmations) from local numbers, without setting up a large SMS gateway.
Important limits
- Consent is essential: message only people who expect to hear from you
- Telecom rules apply: unsolicited commercial messages from personal SIMs can breach TRAI regulations and operator policies
- Fair-use limits: SIM plans cap daily SMS, so spread volume across devices
- Not for mass promotions: use RCS or WhatsApp for large branded campaigns
RapBooster options (excl. GST)
- Phone Gateway: a plan per connected phone, using your own Android phones and SIMs; see pricing
Example
A physiotherapy clinic connects two Android phones to Phone Gateway and sends next-day appointment reminders to its patients, who can reply "OK" or ask to reschedule.
