The short answer.

Social media image sizes for 2026: Instagram posts 1080×1350 (4:5), stories and reels 1080×1920 (9:16), YouTube thumbnails 1280×720 (16:9), LinkedIn posts 1200×1200 or 1080×1350, Facebook posts 1080×1350, and X posts 1600×900. The full guide below covers covers, profiles and ads too.

The ratios that matter most

Three shapes cover 90% of feeds: 4:5 portrait for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn feed posts, 9:16 vertical for stories, reels, Shorts and status, and 16:9 landscape for YouTube and X. Design in these ratios and you'll never get an awkward crop again.

Safe zones

For 9:16 video, keep text and faces away from the top 250px and bottom 350px, where the UI covers them. For YouTube thumbnails, keep key text away from the bottom-right corner, where the duration badge sits.
